He has always maintained his innocence.<\/p>\n<h3><b>The email from Higgins\u2019 partner<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The Federal Court released an email on Wednesday, tendered in court, showing Higgins\u2019 now-fiance David Sharaz emailed Wilkinson in early 2021 and said: \u201cThank you for your time over the phone today, and your sensitivity around what I truly feel is an injustice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$width_584\/t_resize_width\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/9f3f36b9bdae5a11fb472827b8c8d82909a5eaff\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Email from Brittany Higgins\u2019 partner David Sharaz to Lisa Wilkinson in 2021.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Federal Court of Australia<\/cite><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI\u2019m sending this on behalf of Britt, purely because, and this sounds paranoid, we just don\u2019t know who might be keeping a close eye on her.<br \/><\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>\u201cAs discussed, we\u2019re happy for you to send this to your producer (and thank you for speaking to your EP for us). Brittany really needs to be out of the Parliament House when both the story breaks, and the police report is relaunched.<br \/><\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>She\u2019s also happy to come to Sydney. In addition to this I\u2019ve gone and looked up the ACT Policing crime slats for 2019 and there was one reported sexual assault during the time Britt\u2019s incident occurred, You can always chat to me over the phone if you need more, and I can put Britt on. Thanks again, David Sharaz\u201d.<\/i><br \/><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>Wilkinson\u2019s texts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In an affidavit filed in court, <i>The Project\u2019<\/i>s producer Angus Llewellyn said he received a message from Wilkinson on January 19, 2021, which said: \u201cI have an explosive political story for Sunday Project &#8230; we\u2019re going huge with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She urged Llewellyn to \u201ccall me when you can\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Llewellyn, who was then on leave, responded on January 20 that year: \u201cHi Lisa Sounds intriguing! &#8230; can jump on it from Friday if needed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilkinson replied: \u201cIt is an extraordinary coverup &#8230; The woman at the centre of it all is ready to talk. She is based in Canberra. We can fly her up. Would you be good for a meeting with her on Monday?\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Lehrmann not named<\/h3>\n<p>Lehrmann was not named in Ten\u2019s interview and a preliminary issue in the case is whether he was identified via other means.<\/p>\n<p>Lehrmann\u2019s barrister, Matthew Richardson, SC, put to Llewellyn on Wednesday that Ten deliberately put in enough detail to identify Lehrmann. \u201cCompletely false,\u201d Llewellyn said.<\/p>\n<p>If the court finds Lehrmann was identified in the interview, Ten and Wilkinson are seeking to rely on defences of truth and qualified privilege. Qualified privilege relates to publications of public interest and requires a media outlet to show it acted reasonably. The evidence of Llewellyn and Wilkinson is directly relevant to that defence.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Sexual assault charge dropped<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Lehrmann\u2019s ACT Supreme Court trial for sexual assault was aborted last year due to juror misconduct.
