Meghan faces defamation trial after half-sister Samantha claimed she was defamed in order to &#8216;cover up&#8217; her &#8216;false rags-to-riches&#8217; narrative<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Samantha Markle filed an amended lawsuit against Meghan in April of this year<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Her first claim, alleging defamation in Finding Freedom, was dismissed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>She continues to allege that Meghan defamed her by telling Oprah Winfrey she grew up &#8216;an only child&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Trial date has been set for November 2024 in Tampa, Florida\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Judge has not yet responded to Meghan&#8217;s motion to dismiss the new claim\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another trial date has been set for\u00a0Meghan Markle&#8217;s court fight with her half-sister Samantha.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Samantha, 59, claims Meghan defamed her when she said in her Oprah\u00a0Winfrey interview that she had grown up an only child.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She alleges that the remark, along with Meghan&#8217;s comment that she &#8216;doesn&#8217;t really know her&#8217;, was defamatory. Samantha is now demanding $75,000 in damages.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The judge threw out the case in March but an amended complaint was filed the following month.\u00a0Meghan sought to have the amended complaint dismissed in May, but the judge is yet to rule on the request.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/20\/78293993-12796943-image-m-8_1701118775020.jpg\" height=\"1081\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Meghan Markle pictured at the Variety 2023 Power of Women event in California on November 16<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/20\/40202112-12796943-Prince_Harry_and_Meghan_Markle_s_mansion_in_Southern_California_-a-1_1701117122458.jpg\" height=\"476\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Meghan and Harry&#8217;s Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021. She claimed she grew up an &#8216;only child&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a decision dated November 14, the same judge set a trial date for November 2024, with &#8216;in person&#8217; meetings scheduled beforehand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Due to the case being in civil court, Meghan will not have to appear should the case go to trial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her team of attorneys did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com&#8217;s inquiries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Samantha is Meghan&#8217;s father Thomas&#8217;s oldest daughter.
