A WAVE of new talent is set to take to the BBC Radio 1 airwaves as early as this month.

The radio station has appointed four new presenters to front the Friday morning Early Breakfast show on the network.

The BBC will be welcoming four up and coming faces to front the programme on a monthly rotational basis.

It will see them joining a whole host of stars already on the airwaves including Greg James, Mollie King, Jordan North, Vick Hope and Matt Edmonson.

Among the most notable of the four names lined up is DJ and presenter Lauren Layfield.

Lauren is expected to make her debut on the show in 2024 but it isn't her first time to brand into mainstream radio broadcasting.

The star has appeared on the Capital FM Early Breakfast slot for four years as well as holding a role as a regular reporter on BBC One's The One Show.

Lauren even led the social media content team of this year's Eurovision Song Contest joining an acclaimed line-up of stars including Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon.

The 35 year old has even presented alongside Mark Wright for CBBC on their show entitled The Dengineers.

Filled with excitement about joining the BBC, Lauren said: “I am literally gassed to be joining the BBC Radio 1 line-up for Friday Early Breakfast in 2024.

"Radio 1 remains the epicentre of youth culture in the UK, producing the most relevant content for young audiences and as someone who is well-acquainted with Early Breakfast radio, it’s gonna be a total dream to rise and shine with R1’s listeners."

She will be joined by Rotherham-born Joel Mitchell who kicked off his broadcasting career at BBC Radio Sheffield.

Joel, who has previously been a part of the network's Christmas Takeover to showcase emerging talent, will kick off his stint in December after South Tyneside based Chrissy Cameron.

Chrissy has kicked off the gig and is already broadcasting to listeners after landing the coveted Best Presenter award at the 2022 Student Radio Awards.

24 year old Chris Howard from Newcastle completes the line-up and shared his joy at landing the role.

He said: “It’s always been a dream to present on Radio 1.
