In parts of Scotland, people won&apos;t be able to park their cars on the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>The rule will come into force from December 11, 2023. If the driver pays the fine within 14 days, motorists are only charged \u00a350.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31426607.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_Cars-parked-along-the-pavement-streets-of-the-old-townjpgsts.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Government&apos;s legislation states those who fail to pay before the issuing of the Charge Certificate could face a fee increases by as much as 50%.<\/p>\n<p>There are three &quot;key changes&quot; in relation to parking under the new rules, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A ban on pavement parking<\/li>\n<li>A ban on double-parking (more than 50cm from the edge of a carriageway)<\/li>\n<li>A ban on parking at dropped kerbs installed for pedestrian or cycle usage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the Highland Council&apos;s website, there will be a &quot;grace period&quot; until early 2024. But once that&apos;s up, drivers will be handed fines.<\/p>\n<p> Scotland originally announced a ban on pavement parking and dropped kerbs in 2019. According to the Scottish Government, the ban is set to tackle &quot;inconsiderate&quot; parking.<\/p>\n<p>It also aims to make pavements and roads more accessible for everybody. Parking on pavements is already punishable if it causes an obstruction and is included in the Highway Code.<\/p>\n<p>There is a parking ban already in place across 32 London boroughs and the city under the Greater London (General Purposes) Act 1974.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone caught parking on the pavement could be charged with &quot;unnecessary obstruction of any part of the highway&quot; and given a \u00a370 fine.<\/p>\n<p><b> <i> Want all the biggest Lifestyle news straight to your inbox?
