A pet emu went on the run after escaping from his home in a village called Loose.<\/p>\n
The emu, named Rodney, went noseying around in a neighbour’s driveway and even walked up to their front door only to be captured on doorbell footage.<\/p>\n
Police were alerted to the bird’s escape in the Kent village near Maidstone around midday on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Maureen Roberts, 81, said she received a ring doorbell notification that someone was at the door while out at lunch with her daughter.<\/p>\n
Her neighbour then phoned to say that an escaped emu had wandered up to the doorway.<\/p>\n

Video footage showed the curious creature entering the porch before standing on the welcome mat<\/p>\n

Another clip showed two men and a boy chasing the bird as it walked into the driveway\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They then grabbed onto the animal and escorted it off the property<\/p>\n
She said:\u00a0 ‘I thought she was winding me up and I laughed it off.<\/p>\n
‘But it turned out she wasn’t joking!<\/p>\n
‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw it on the camera. It came right up to the front door.<\/p>\n
‘My dog was at home in the front room at the time. I don’t know what he would’ve thought seeing a giant bird like that.’<\/p>\n

Police eventually caught the emu and returned it home<\/p>\n
Another clip showed two men and a boy chasing the bird as it walked into the driveway and grabbing on to it before it reached the door before escorting it off the property.<\/p>\n
The animal was spotted by police and caught before being taken back to its home.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: ‘At around 1.10pm officers on patrol in Maidstone assisted with returning an emu that had escaped from a residential property in the Loose area.’<\/p>\n
