BBC Breakfast turned awkward during the latest episode after Sally Nugent suffered second-hand embarrassment from her colleague's joke.

On Tuesday's show (November 14), Sally and her co-host Jon Kay were back on the famous red sofa discussing the latest pressing headlines. But offering viewers a lighter story, the presenters went on to discuss the rescue of an emu that landed itself in front of someone's front door.

Rodney the emu was caught trying to ring a neighbour's door bell in Kent. However after a short while the bird was eventually rescued by his proud owners.

Showing video footage of the incident, Sally and Jon giggled at the mere lunacy of it all. But the funny incident promoted Jon to make a rather clever quip.

The presenter said: "Hemu exactly what he was doing." But failing to impress, Sally covered her face and said: "Oh stop!"

Sally then said: "How long have you been thinking that?" Giggling, Jon got weather reporter Carol Kirkwood involved to back him up.

Replying to Sally's question, he said: "Just as long as you've been doing the news. Carol, you like that didn't you?"

Chiming in Carol said: "I did! And what a brilliant name for an emu. It doesn't get much better than that!"

Elsewhere on the show, things took a more serious approach when Jon interviewed conservative MP Richard Holden. Discussing the latest cabinet change which saw a return of former Prime Minister David Cameron, Jon attempted to grill him on the current state of parliament.

But fans at home were far from impressed with the interview overall and took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts. One viewer said: "@BBCBreakfast wow you really are hopeless at interviewing. You’ve just let him walk & talk all over you. He didn’t answer a single thing."
