Barbra Streisand has addressed her rumoured feud with the legendary Judy Garland in her new memoir, My Name Is Barbra.<\/p>\n

In the candid book, in which the 81-year-old singer and actress sheds light on her journey into superstardom and the ups and downs of her glittering decades-long career, she delves into the rumour that there was an issue between her and the iconic star.<\/p>\n

Judy was Hollywood’s darling, dominating the big screen in some of the industry’s biggest films, most famously in the role of Dorothy in 1939’s The Wizard of Oz.<\/p>\n

Barbra burst onto the scene and became a household name in the early 1960s. She had huge recording success and later starred in critically acclaimed films such as Funny Girl, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.<\/p>\n

The rumour mill went into overdrive that Judy was incensed by the “new girl’s\u201d fame, which threatened to eclipse her own.<\/p>\n

It didn’t help that when the pair got together for their first public appearance on The Judy Garland Show in 1963, Barbra made a “small request” where she asked the host: “Can I replace you?”<\/p>\n

However, what appeared to be a dig was actually prewritten.<\/p>\n

Barbra explained in her book: “That was scripted dialogue, written by Mel or one of the writers and given to me to say because they thought it would get a laugh.<\/p>\n

“And somehow, over the years, this has been twisted into a totally different story… that I came out on stage and really meant that!”<\/p>\n
