Ben Boulos accidently mistakes guests medical condition for a disagreement<\/h3>\n

BBC Breakfast presenter Ben Boulos was forced to backtrack and issue an apology to a guest after he mistook her medical condition for disagreeing with him.<\/p>\n

On Sunday\u2019s show he and co-host Sarah Campbell were discussing \u201cshrinkflation\u201d \u2013 the process whereby everyday food products reduce in size but cost the same.<\/p>\n

Prior to introducing retail analyst Teresa Wickham via video link to discuss the issue, he explained that they often featured this on BBC News segment Money and Work.<\/p>\n

However, things got off to a bad start when Ben assumed the expert was disagreeing with him as she was shaking her head, but Teresa revealed this was actually due to a medical condition called Dystonia.<\/p>\n

Prior to introducing her, he told his co-host: \u201cWhenever we talk about this on Money and Work it really winds people up because they\u2019re just not getting as much for their money.\u201d<\/p>\n

As they cut to Teresa, Ben said: \u201cYou\u2019re shaking your head Teresa, you can\u2019t believe it either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Embarrassingly for him, the guest corrected him responding: \u201cNo I\u2019m shaking my head because I\u2019ve got dystonia so don\u2019t worry.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a mortified Ben said, \u201cI\u2019m sorry\u201d repeatedly Teresa graciously reassured him all was good.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, no, no that\u2019s alright,\u201d she told him. \u201cI\u2019m, quite open about it but people think I disagree with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rest of the report seemed to go without incident but Ben felt compelled to revisit to gaffe at the end of the report thanking her for her time and saying \u201capologies again for my mistake at the beginning of our conversation”.<\/p>\n
