DANNY DRINKWATER has opened up on the hilarious moment he received a clip round the head from legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drinkwater, 33, has called time on his playing career after spending the last year without a club.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

The former England midfielder made just 12 league appearances in five years at Chelsea.<\/p>\n

But Drinkwater remains a favourite with Leicester after helping them to 2016\u2019s historic Premier League title win.<\/p>\n

And speaking to the High Performance podcast, the player himself has fond memories of his early playing years at Manchester United.<\/p>\n

Drinkwater fought his way up the ranks before earning several loan moves.<\/p>\n

His Red Devils career was cut short without a single senior appearance when he was sold to Leicester in 2012.<\/p>\n

But Drinkwater will never forget one of his few encounters with Sir Alex.<\/p>\n

The iconic tactician led United to 13 titles during a glittering era.<\/p>\n

He achieved success by running a tight ship, and although Drinkwater was still a youngster at the time, he too could not escape Fergie\u2019s wrath following a hilarious canteen outburst.<\/p>\n

Drinkwater revealed how he received a clip around the head from Scot while urging United\u2019s chef to hurry up making his lunch.<\/p>\n

The newly-retired man laughed as he said: \u201cI had a few dealings with Sir Alex.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some reason I was close to the chefs and was waiting for a spag bol to be done fresh.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like \u2018bloody hell, any chance (you can hurry up)?!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cNext min, boof round the back of my head, and he (Fergie) says \u2018you dare speak to him again like that, apologise\u2019.<\/p>\n
