A WOMAN has issued an urgent warning after finally working out the dangerous reason why her bedroom stank of fish.

Claudia Anderson, who is 26, explained how a fishy odour was lingering around her bedroom for weeks…and she was horrified to finally realise where it was coming from.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@mrsclaudiaanderson), she begins: "Here's something I didn't know about a potential electrical call fire hazard until it happened to me.

"Now, for a few weeks, me and my husband were walking into our bedroom and thinking, 'oh my God, it stinks of fish in our bedroom.'

"We didn't want to tell anyone about it because you're a bit embarrassed."

Claudia goes on to say how they decided to look at the plumbing in their en suite, assuming that's where the smell was coming from.

"So we took out the U bend from the sink, made sure the toilet was super clean, cleaned the plug hole in the shower…everything," she says.

"But the smell still lingered."

However, still not getting to the bottom of it, she finally had enough and decided to take to Google to try and find an explanation.

And she was shocked to discover that the fishy smell could be a result of a serious electrical issue.

"I literally would never, ever have guessed that that is what that is…ever," she says.

"So I messaged my brother-in-law who's an electrician, and he said, 'yeah, that's probably something you should get checked out.'

"So I called my father-in-law, who also used to be an electrician, and he came around this morning and had a look."

Claudia then gave a glimpse of what it was causing the problem.

Pointing to the fuse box, she says: "This is attached to our own suite and there's our bedroom.

"So every time we walked in here, we were like, 'this smells like fish,' but it's actually this..

"There was a wire that had become disconnected, and I don't know if you can see but it was actually melting the plastic on the inside of the socket.

"Look at that. That is terrifying!

"We were so, so lucky that we caught that before that burst into flames."

She went on to urge people that if you ever have an unexplained fishy smell in any of your rooms, then to call an electrician immediately.

The post has since gone viral, garnering a whopping 34k views and several comments, with many commending Claudia for speaking out and raising awareness.

"That happened to me I found it just in time my living room light was melting. Would've lost my house in a fire any later," wrote one.

A second penned: "Lucky you!!! I’ve made a mental note of fishy might mean electrical. So thanks for that!"

A third commented: "That happened to us but it was plastic near the light bulb."

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Fish is an electrical burning smell."

And a further added: "I had this – bought an 80s house where nothing had been changed and someone had drilled through cables in the walls cooker cable in the kitchen, scary!"
