When Megan Thee Stallion pulled out of her scheduled performance at the Global Citizen festival in New York earlier this month due to an “unforeseen scheduling conflict,” it took about five minutes to do the math and realize — oh, Beyonce’s playing in Houston that night. Not only did she and Megan team up for the “Savage Remix” back in 2020, they’re both from Houston.

When the Queen calls, you drop everything.

Sure enough, as the Global Citizen festival soldiered on amid a tropical storm in New York — with Lauryn Hill staging a mini-Fugees reunion and the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing headlining — Beyonce was joined by Megan at the first night of her two-night stand at NRG Stadium in their shared hometown, staging their first-ever concert collaboration of “Savage Remix.”

“Do we have any savage ladies and gentlemen in the house tonight?” Beyoncé asked the crowd after powering through her verse. “Please give it up for Houston’s own Megan Thee Stallion.”

As Megan took the stage, Beyonce said, “Don’t she make you proud, Houston? She makes me proud.”

“I love you Beyoncé,” Megan shouted.

Shortly after the remix dropped in 2020, Megan told Hot 97’s Ebro Darden that she was as surprised as anyone that Beyonce joined her.

“I woke up and I was like…,” Megan paused, “I knew the song was coming out, but, it was still like, ‘Is it really gonna drop? Are we doing this for real, for real?’ And I cried — like, I had to call my grandma.”

The pair met earlier that year year at a party, although Megan said the collaboration wasn’t discussed that night.

“They had a New Year’s eve party at the house, that was legit my first time meeting Beyonce,” Megan told Darden. “And, oh my God, we danced all night — I was really in there, cutting it up. I was like, ‘Wow, Beyonce accepts my turn up! She likes ‘Ratchet Megs’ and I love it!”
