The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Nicki Minaj for the second year in a row, kicked off at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on Tuesday evening.

Taylor Swift led the nominations with eight, followed by Sza with six nods. Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Sam Smith each scored five VMAs nominations, while three artists tied with four apiece: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Blackpink and Shakira.

Swift has a chance at setting a new record for wins for video of the year, should she pick it up a fourth time by winning for “Anti-Hero.” It’s a record she already holds: Swift became the first performer to ever win video of the year three times when she got it last year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).”

Diddy, who is set to receive the Global Icon Award, is performing a set from “The Love Album: Off the Grid” at the ceremony, marking his first VMAs performance since 2005. Additional performers include Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin and Stray Kids.
