Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff has been pictured for the first time after he was involved in a terrifying car crash while filming Top Gear last season.

The sports and TV star's accident ended up grounding the series to a halt, as fans watched on in horror as pictures emerged of the crash.

Freddie, 45, was rushed to hospital and sustained a number of injuries on his face as well as broken ribs.

The accident took place at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, when Freddie was driving an open-topped three-wheel Morgan Super 3 vehicle.

The star had been zipping around the track at 130mph when the smash occurred on December 13, 2022.

Freddie spent months in recovery, but has finally emerged in the public eye once more after making the decision to quit Top Gear and return to cricket instead.

The star is currently working with the England men's cricket team on the One-Day International series, which is going up against New Zealand.

He stepped out for a day leading fielding drills ahead of the first match on Friday, which is set to take place at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens.

Freddie grinned and laughed with his fellow cricketers as he was pictured wearing the teal and white team kit on the field.

Along with a bucket hat to shield his face, Freddie also wore a pair of aviator sunglasses.

Despite covering up, it was still clear that the sportsman's injuries were very visible nine months on from his crash.

As well as a swollen nose and eye, one side of Freddie's mouth appeared to be unable to move correctly, and he still sported a graze on his chin.

While fans would have been thrilled to see the star out and about continuing on with his career once more, and seemingly in good spirits, a source told The Times in March that he had been "seriously emotionally and physically affected by the crash".

Top Gear bosses released a statement after the crash, choosing to halt filming in the wake of Freddie's life-threatening injuries.

“Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34 of Top Gear at this time," they said.

“We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgment about how best to continue later this year.

“This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support. Finally there will be a health and safety review of the show, in line with our procedures," the statement added.
