TWO HUGE shows that were set to premiere on Disney+ have been scrapped by the streaming giant in a bid to save cash – and fans are devastated.

Live-action shows The Spiderwick Chronicles and Nautilus had already finished filming when Disney+ announced their decision to give both series the chop.

The Spiderwick Chronicles was made as a six-episode reboot of a popular children's film.

The 2008 movie was based on a book, and features three kids discovering their family estate is a portal to a magical world.

Fans were looking forward to seeing the new CGI design for the fantasy creatures and have hit out at the show being axed on social media.

One person wrote: "It's a shame, the creature designs and world-building are really cool.

"I love how the Hydra was reimaged as not actually being a multiheaded creature, but several creatures stuck together at the base of the tail similar to a Rat King."

Another added: "This really sucks because I was really looking forward to it …Disney Plus really needed shows like this."

A third disappointed viewer said: "Dang, loved these books and the movie. I hope it gets picked up by another platform, would love to see!"

UK fantasy adventure series Nautilus also received the axe.

</picture>

</picture>

</picture>

</picture>

The show, which was filmed in Australia, tells the origin story of a man called Captain Nemo and his submarine.

Their adventures are based on famous sci-fi stories written by Jules Verne.

A disgruntled fan of the series commented on the news saying: "This is ridiculously short sighted, Captain Nemo and the Nautilus are so important to the history of Disney. Shame."

A second criticised the streaming giant, writing: "THIS IS ALREADY DISNEY IP (intellectual property) MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!"

Do you have a story for The Sun Showbiz team?

Email digishowbiz@the-sun.co.uk or call us direct on 0207 782 4220 .

We pay for videos too.
