Who is Eleanor Williams?

Eleanor Williams is a convicted criminal, who falsified claims that she had been physically and sexually abused by a group from her home town.

Williams claimed she was raped, trafficked and beaten by several men in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

These were false accusations which garnered the attention of far-right groups due to Williams' claim that the men were part of an Asian grooming gang.

The accused were subject to death threats due to her actions, and also saw their property damaged by those who believed Williams' lies.

It turned out that the injuries shown by Williams were inflicted by herself, including the use of a hammer that she was seen buying from a local shop.

A Home Office pathologist said that her injuries weren't consistent with her account, and appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.

These were just two of many other false claims made that were proved wrong by the police.

How long will Eleanor Williams serve in prison?

Williams was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison at Preston Crown Court on March 14, 2023.

The 22-year-old will serve half of her sentence behind bars, and the rest on licence once released.
