BROADCASTER ITV has collaborated with NHS Charities Together to launch the million claps appeal.

The initiative is to urge viewers to help the NHS by donating and also to send messages of support to their staff.

What is the ITV and NHS Million Claps appeal?

The initiative is aimed at supporting the NHS in the fight against coronavirus.

People are being asked to make a £5 donation to the NHS, and send a personalised message to staff.

The campaign's aim is to raise £5million to support Britain's healthcare provider.

A full advert of the campaign will air across all ITV channels at 7:28pm on April 9.

Urging the public to donate, Ellie Orton, CEO of NHS Charities Together said: "Across the NHS, thousands of heroes leave the safety of their families every day and face the COVID-19 battle head on to save the lives of our loved ones."

Claire Phillips, ITV's director of social purpose emphasised the network's delight in partnering with NHS Charities Together.

Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden also praised the appeal saying: "Initiatives like "A Million Claps", together with the £750 million package for charities we announced yesterday, will make sure those on the front line are able to reach people who need help most, support communities and take pressure off our NHS."

Creative agency, Open have created ITV's advertising campaign, which the broadcaster has dedicated airtime across its network to make sure it reaches a wide range of people.

What is ITV doing to support NHS heroes on Thursday, April 16?

ITV will dedicate Thursday, April 16 to the NHS heroes leading the fight against coronavirus across the country.

It will be celebrating the unsung heroes in the NHS throughout the day in an 'uplifting' and 'meaningful' way.

Members of the public will also be encouraged to send messages of support to their local hospitals.

How can I get involved with the campaign?

People who can afford it are being asked to donate £5.

The donation can be made by texting CLAP to 70507.

This can be accompanied with a message of appreciation to the NHS staff members leading the battle against coronavirus.

How is ITV supporting Clap for our Carers at 8pm?

On Thursday (April 9) at 8pm, ITV will pause programming in order applaud the services of key workers across the country.

ITV through their mental wellness campaign, Britain Get Talking also urges the public to support and encourage family members, friends and frontline workers.
