A pensioner was told to ‘rot in hell’ after admitting to stabbing a popular mother-of-four and her husband to death at their home.
Derek Martin, 65, denied murdering parents Chloe Bashford, 30, and Josh Bashford, 33, at their home in Newhaven, East Sussex, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a hearing at Lewes Crown Court yesterday.
Distraught family members told the man who has left four children orphaned that he was a ‘monster’ as he was taken away. He will be remanded in custody ahead of a trial on November 27.
Martin, from Brighton, allegedly walked into a police station 10 minutes before the bodies were found on June 9. An inquest heard they were found in different bedrooms at their home in Newhaven Cemetery.
At Lewes Crown Court, Martin answered: ‘Not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter.’

Popular parents Chloe-Jay and Joshua were found with fatal stab wounds at their home at around 7pm. Police said that their attacker was known to them.
DCI Kimball Edey of Surrey and Sussex Major Crimes told the inquest opening at Hastings that Derek Martin, also known as Derek Glenn, walked into a police station in Brighton ten minutes before at 6.50pm.
‘Derek Martin attended Brighton police station and informed member of staff that he had killed two people.’
He named both people and gave their address.

Her Honour Judge Christine Laing KC DL tried to calm the public gallery, telling family Martin has now admitted the killings and his mental state will be the only issue.
‘He accepts the killings. The issue will be murder or manslaughter,’ the judge said.
As Martin was taken down, family members shouted: ‘You’re a monster! Just die, mate. Rot in hell.’
Chloe-Jay and Joshua were described as the ‘most amazing parents’. Family members have set up a crowdfunding appeal for the four children – Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua.
Chloe’s niece, Georgie Last, paid a heartbreaking tribute to the ‘most funny and loving pair’ on Facebook after their deaths.
She wrote: ‘Words can not begin to explain the pain we are all feeling right now. Never did we think we would experience heartbreak and pain like this.
‘The most funny and loving pair, you loved each other so much it was just amazing to see what true love looked like.
‘You were the most amazing parents to 4 beautiful, intelligent, and loving children. We will all do everything to make sure they are supported, loved, and looked after.
