A MURDER investigation is underway in Manchester after two bodies were found on neighbouring streets just six hours apart.
The body of a a 58-year-old woman was found at an address in Longsight at around 2pm on Friday, hours before the body of a man in his 60's was discovered on a nearby street.
Officers reported to a home at around 8pm to find the man, whose death is being treated as "unexplained".
Both scenes remained cordoned off on Saturday afternoon and forensic officers have visited the home where the woman was found.
It is not yet clear if the deaths are linked.
A GMP spokesperson said: "We're keeping an open mind around any potential links at this time, as our investigation is in the extremely early stages, and we can't rule out any lines of inquiry."
An end of terrace house on the street where the woman's body was found seems to be the focus of current enquiries.
Neighbour Stuart Dudley told the Manchester Evening News that the 58-year-old had lived there for around six or seven years.
"I’ve spoken to her to say hello, but that’s it. It’s really sad. I’ve never seen so many police cars before," he said.
Another neighbour added: "This is a pretty quiet area. It’s scary that something like this is happening near my house."
A large police presence was pictured at both scenes on Friday evening.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson, from GMP's Major Incident Team, explained: "First and foremost our thoughts remain with the woman's family, who are understandably devastated following the discovery yesterday.
"Detectives are carrying out a thorough investigation, and are following up a number of lines of inquiry to piece together exactly what has happened, and bring whoever is responsible to justice.
"Our investigation is in its early stages, inquiries are ongoing, and there will be an increase of officers in the area.
"Anyone concerned in the local area can stop and speak to our officers.
"We're also asking anyone with information to come forward – even the smallest bit may help with our investigation.
