A TWO-year-old is fighting for life in hospital as cops quiz a man in connection with the horror.
Emergency crews were scrambled to a home in the quiet village of New Marske, North Yorks.
The toddler was rushed to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident yesterday.
Police are now investigating how the girl was injured and have released no other details.
Forensic officers were today seen at the terraced house combing for clues.
Horrified neighbours have expressed their shock after seeing police swoop on the residential street.
One told Gazette Live: "There has been two police officers at the front and back all night.
"We were shocked.
"It's not nice when a child is involved."
North East Ambulance Service confirmed the air ambulance was raced to the scene yesterday morning.
North Yorkshire Police said: "Police can confirm that a two-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital following a call to a property on Dale Street, New Marske, on the morning of Tuesday 10 November.
"Officers are continuing with their enquiries into the circumstances around how the child came about her injuries."
