Amber Michelle Parker, 37, of Fairfield, Texas, was detained on Wednesday after her family members altered cops following her recent trip to North Africa.
She is now facing serious charges after attempting to lure men with sordid images of the child in lingerie exposing her breasts which she posted online, reports the Waco Tribune Herald.
Local officials told the news outlet that the Mexia Junior High School teacher was arrested after a joint investigation sparked by concerned relatives of the victim and the suspect.
A police statement read: “A female suspect was placed under arrest for the offense of Trafficking of Persons after conspiring to traffic a minor child to multiple male subjects online in Morocco.”
McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said that horrified family members believed Parker was making arrangements last month to take the girl to Morocco to sell her as a sex slave.
Her age and relationship was not divulged to protect her.
Sheriff McNamara said: "Family members got wind that Parker was going to try to lure this girl to Morocco.
“It is a dastardly story, and it is trafficking at its worst."
Although the girl did not go with her, it is claimed Parker travelled to Morocco in mid-December and returned January 1, he said.
Parker, an eighth-grade reading teacher, was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday afternoon when the school district learned of the allegations and arrest, Mexia ISD Superintendent Lyle DuBus said.
Mr DuBus said: “We take these allegations seriously and we will be working closely with our partners in law enforcement.
“The district continues to monitor the situation and feels no students at Mexia Junior High were ever at risk."
Sheriff McNamara told KWTX-TV: “It’s a very low-down thing. It’s the worst of the worst when you prostitute your own relative, that’s as low as you get.
“It’s sickening to think a woman would stoop that low.”
Parker remained in custody at Freestone County Jail while inquires continue.
