What to know about Suzanne Morphew’s disappearance

“Today is not the day for celebration nor does it mark the end of this investigation," said Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze at the time.

"Rather it's the next step in this very difficult yet very important journey as we seek justice for Suzanne and her family."

Spezze added that Suzanne Morphew deeply loved her two daughters and had a passion for life.

“I believe people like Suzanne are a rare find and those who knew her were indeed very lucky,” he said.

Both Mallory and Macy have stood by their father and attended most of his court hearings.

He was released on bail on September 20, 2021.

Barry Morphew's court hearing was expected to take place in May 2022, but on April 19, 2022, the murder case against him was dropped.

According to 9News, Mallory told the Fremont County judge, "We miss our mom dearly and we know our dad didn’t have anything to do with it,” and that she and her sister both “fully support this dismissal."

Her sister, Macy, told the judge, “We’re thankful we can go on with our life and just take time to heal.”

What did Barry Morphew say about his wife's disappearance?

Barry Morphew recorded a video after his wife went missing saying, "Oh Suzanne, if anyone is out there and can hear this, that has you, please, we’ll do whatever it takes to bring you back."

"We love you, we miss you, your girls need you.

"No questions asked, however much they want – I will do whatever it takes to get you back. Honey, I love you, I want you back so bad."

Barry Morphew had also offered a $100,000 reward for information on his wife's whereabouts.

What happened to Suzanne Morphew?

Suzanne Morphew disappeared on Mother's Day in 2020 when she allegedly left her home to take a bike ride.

Her bike was later discovered abandoned near a cliff on the side of the road near her home but investigators did not find signs of blood or a struggle.

Her hydration backpack and her water bottle were found still inside her car, leading investigators to believe the scene might have been staged.

Evidence found in the case of Suzanne's disappearance included a spy pen that was hidden in the couple's bedroom that recorded an affair.

Investigators found the man who was married with six children, but his alibi for that day was cleared.

One year after Suzanne went missing, Barry Morphew was arrested and charged with first-degree murder despite not having found Suzanne's body.

In the arrest affidavit, prosecutors had said, "It had become clear that Barry could not control Suzanne's insistence on leaving him and he resorted to something he has done his entire life – hunt and control Suzanne like he had hunted and controlled animals."
