Bethany Skinner, 22, was pronounced dead in hospital two days after the ordeal at the popular seaside resort.

Bethany's body was discovered after it washed up by coastguards in the early hours of last Sunday at the town which is dubbed as "sunniest place in England".

Detective Inspector Andy Westwood believes she left Sheiks nightclub on the pier that night, Plymouth Live reported.

The 22-year-old's family have paid a touching tribute through Surrey Police, which said: "Our loss is indescribable. Bethany's life was going so well."

The statement said: "She had her whole future ahead of her and the tragedy is that she has died at the age of 22."

Bethany recently graduated from Plymouth University with an art degree, and worked at Butlin's in Bognor Regis.

Bethany grew up in Somerset with her mother and two sisters, and had "a very successful time" studying art at Plymouth University.

Sussex Police are now investigating how the recent graduate ended up in the Channel, and have appealed for witnesses to step forward with any information they may have.
