This week it was announced that George R. R. Martin has turned down a cameo appearance in Game of Thrones season 8.

The acclaimed author behind A Song of Ice and Fire – the basis of the HBO fantasy series – has revealed that he was offered the chance to make a small appearance in the final season of Game of Thrones .

Martin told Entertainment Weekly about the offer from series showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

"David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do," said Martin. "But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast".

He also discussed how he had previously filmed a cameo for the original series pilot, but it was cut when they re-shot the episode for the broadcast first episode, Winter Is Coming.
