Cole Hauser will be returning to screens next year as Yellowstone’s most loyal ranch hand, Rip Wheeler. Ahead of the Paramount series’ new season, Hauser took to Instagram to tease his new role in an upcoming action-thriller based on true events, co-starring Mel Gibson.

Principal cast member Cole Hauser has confirmed he has finished shooting his scenes as ranch hand Rip Wheeler for the fourth season of Yellowstone.

The modern Western series is set to continue next year following a series of ruthless attacks on land owner John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family.

Hauser portrays fan favourite Rip, the on-again-off-again love interest for Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and the leader of the bunkhouse pack.

The star’s comments on Instagram have sent some alarm bells ringing that Rip Wheeler’s time on the ranch in season four could be ending prematurely.

He revealed: “Finished Yellowstone S4 yesterday. Landed in #puertorico last night. This is my new movie #panama. Inspired by true events in 1989. Pics to come!”

Filming for new thriller, Panama, is set to begin in Puerto Rico next month, giving Hauser plenty of time to self-isolate before filming during the ongoing pandemic can resume.

His new film features Mel Gibson as the Yellowstone star’s former commanding officer, who tasks an ex-marine to go undercover during the US invasion of Panama.

Inspired by true events, the picture will be directed by Mark Neveldine, one of the masterminds behind bonkers action blockbusters the Crank series and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Hauser’s Instagram post featured a tantalising look at Panama’s screenplay, written by Daniel Adams and William Barber.

The new movie is tentatively eying a 2021 release date, though it isn’t confirmed whether Panama will be released in theatres or on streaming platforms.

As filming for season four continues for the rest of the cast, Hauser’s post may cause some speculation about his character’s role in the coming episodes.

Although Rip Wheeler isn’t a member of the Dutton family, he has appeared in all 29 episodes of the series so far.

Following the attacks on John, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and his new fiancée, Beth, Rip and the bunkhouse boys could embark on a trail of vengeance in the next season.

However, Hauser seemingly wrapping filming before the rest of his co-stars has some fans preparing for tragedy.

On his Instagram post, one follower asked: “So give us a hint…who didn’t live to the end of Season 4???”

Viewers are tipping Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) as the mastermind behind the brutal ambush at the end of the last season.

Alternatively, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and even Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) are prime suspects, especially after Jamie’s shocking discoveries in season three.

If Rip Wheeler and the boys take the war for Yellowstone Ranch into their own hands, Rip could end up causing more harm than good in their quest for revenge.

More importantly, it’s encouraging to know production on the fourth season is still going smoothly, despite the complications caused by the pandemic.

With Yellowstone sticking to schedule, it’s likely the gripping drama will meet its deadline for the show’s traditional June premiere.

Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
