Piers Morgan made his abrupt exit from Good Morning Britain on Tuesday evening following talks with ITV about his conduct surrounding coverage of Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. After insisting he “didn’t believe a word” the Duchess had said in the interview, GMB was hit with over 40,000 Ofcom complaints. But with Piers now without a presenting role, GB News chairman Andrew Neil discussed the possibility of him joining the new news network – a possibility Andrew is keen to entertain.
Andrew was speaking to Phillip and Holly as part of the This Morning’s Morning View segment to delve into the latest headlines.
And as part of the segment, Piers’s GMB exit inevitably popped up in the conversation.
With rumours about Piers’s next steps continuing to circulate, Phillip decided to ask Andrew outright if he had any plans to try and get him to join GB News.
“In the studio next door to us, there is a vacant seat currently,” Phillip began. “So, Piers Morgan, flounced out – so will you be offering him a job?”
Andrew jokingly replied: “I thought you were going to ask me if I will fill the vacant seat.”
Phillip and Holly let out a laugh before Andrew turned his attention to Piers’s possible GB News arrival.
“You know, we’re open to all sort of offers, we’re about to launch GB News, it will be a different kind of news channel,” he continued.
“I think Piers would be a huge asset for that kind of news channel.”
However, the This Morning guest made clear he wouldn’t want to mirror Piers’s stint on GMB over to GB News.
Andrew explained: “I wouldn’t want to transfer what he was doing for Good Morning Britain straight to GB News,
“I’d want to do something different with him at a different time of day in a different way.”
This Morning host Phillip interjected: “He is what he is though, isn’t he?”

“He is,” Andrew explained. “But I think he’s also adaptable and can do different things in different ways.”
Andrew finished off the chat by admitting GB News will indeed try and get Piers onboard.
Reiterating that he would be an “asset”, Andrew said both parties would try to come to a “mutual agreement” to sign Piers up.
As it stands, Piers hasn’t made a public comment about appearing on GB News following his exit from GMB.
He has spoken to Sky News and taken to Twitter, however, to respond to his departure from the breakfast TV programme.
To his 7.8million Twitter followers he wrote: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.
“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.
“Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV.
