When a TV show means as much to people as Schitt’s Creek does to its many fans, there are some who are willing to risk their health in order to honor it. But creator and star Dan Levy strongly advises against that. Though the series finished filming long before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many are still visiting the real-life town where much of it was shot during this time. Learn where that is and what Levy said here.

Dan Levy is the star and creator of ‘Schitt’s Creek’

Levy co-created the series with his father, actor Eugene Levy. The two also star on the show as father and son Johnny and David Rose. Along with Catherine O’Hara as matriarch Moira and Annie Murphy as daughter Alexis, the series depicts a wealthy family who has to start over with nothing in the titular town.

For a couple of years, Schitt’s Creek aired in Canada and on Pop TV in the U.S. to a small fan base. However, after the first two seasons came to Netflix in January 2017, the viewership grew. By Season 5, the show was critically acclaimed and had a strong following. It also earned a number of Emmy nominations.

The series has finished filming

But all good things must come to an end. Levy announced in 2019 that the upcoming sixth season of Schitt’s Creek would be its last. Though it’s at the peak of its popularity, Levy previously said it was “the right choice” to end with season 6, saying it, “felt like a great time to end on a high note.”

The 14-episode season began airing on January 7, 2020. The final episode, along with an accompanying hour-long special, titled “Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt’s Creek Farewell,” will air on April 7, 2020.

Levy addresses fans visiting the towns

Fortunately for fans of Schitt’s Creek, having this show in such a difficult time has been very comforting. But some are looking for an even deeper connection. On March 23, 2020, the official Twitter account for the show requested that people stop visiting the town where the series was filmed, due to coronavirus restrictions.

Levy retweeted this message, adding, “The towns where we shot Schitt’s Creek were so lovely and accommodating to us. Please show them the same respect. Visiting right now is a threat to the residents’ health and safety. Thanks for understanding.”

Where was ‘Schitt’s Creek’ filmed?

The Canadian series was filmed in part in the town of Goodwood, Ontario. The exterior of the Rosebud Motel is on the outskirts of town, but many of the popular storefronts, including Bob’s Garage, Rose Apothecary, and Cafe Tropical, are all in one prominent area.

“I remember season 1, we had to approach this town and tell them, ‘You are going to be Schitt’s Creek,”‘ Levy told CBC News in a 2019 interview. “I think it took a lot of blind faith on the part of the town to believe us when we said, ‘We will be doing this place justice and we will be honoring small-town life in your city.’” Let’s help Levy keep his promise by staying away from Goodwood right now.
