THE ACTOR who played DS Aiden Healy in crime drama Vera finally reunited with co-star Brenda Blethyn after his devastating exit from the show.
But the detective duo reconnected at the National Television Awards where Brenda was nominated for Best Drama Performance – instead of on set.
Fans of the ITV show were heartbroken when actor Kenny Doughty made the shocking announcement that he was leaving Vera after eight years.
Initially viewers were worried that the drama would be scrapped without Kenny playing DCI Stanhope's sidekick.
Thankfully, show bosses soon announced that Vera would return for athirteenth series, with David Leon taking over as a replacement.
As part of an emotional tribute to the show when Kenny announced he was leaving, the actor called leading woman Brenda his "rock" and thanked her for "precious times" over the years.

He said: "After 8 years & 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera.
"I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn.
"The perfect leading star who I owe so much to.
"I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years.

Kenny was all smiles as he reunited with his co-star and friend at the London award ceremony.
Brenda remained positive despite losing the gong to Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire.
