Hey, y’all! Tiffany Haddish’s conquest of Hollywood continues.
The actress, who’s been a hot commodity since breaking out in “Girls Trip,” is in talks to star in a female-driven reboot of “21 Jump Street,” according to Collider.
“22 Jump Street” writer Rodney Rothman is penning the script and is set to direct, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller likely producing.
The formula would be tweaked slightly from the film that starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Haddish is 39, so playing a high school student seems far-fetched. Instead, she’d be an undercover cop posing as a teacher and mother of a new student, her partner.
Sources tell Collider that Awkwafina, the breakout star of “Ocean’s 8” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” is at the top of Sony’s list for that role.
Haddish has been taking Hollywood by storm since 2017’s “Girl’s Trip,” and recently starred opposite Kevin Hart in the hit “Night School.” She is also voicing characters in the upcoming animated movies “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2.”
Sony, meanwhile, is busily rebooting several of its franchises, including “Charlie’s Angels” and “Men in Black.”
