This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Josie Gibson were forced to apologise after a caller accidentally made an explicit remark when referring to Shirley Ballas.
The presenters of the daytime ITV show were left red-faced after the Spin To Win caller swore while trying to say the name of Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley.
The 63 year old ballroom dancer, nicknamed the Queen of Latin, was set to join Holly and Josie later on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning.
And in order to win a bag of goodies on Spin to Win, the caller, who had just won £3,000, was asked: “Which Strictly judge is on later?”
He replied: “What's her name? Shirley B*****d.”
Josie appeared to miss the slip up and punched the air to celebrate the caller getting the question correct. Holly, meanwhile, appeared slightly embarrassed and corrected the viewer by saying: “Shirley Ballas.”
She added: “I think we all need to listen to that back, sorry if you heard anything different there.”
Later in the show, Holly apologised for the explicit remark, saying: “'I think in the moment he lost himself slightly with his answer and he might have said something that slipped out and we are very sorry if you heard that. He didn't mean it and also sorry to Shirley.”
Viewers found the blunder amusing, with one writing on social media: “The highlight of the show being Shirley B*****d.”
Earlier this week, Shirley opened up about how violent and sexual messages from social media trolls had left her scared to leave her home. The Strictly judge shared her horrific trolling experiences with former Love Island star Olivia Attwood in her new ITV documentary Olivia Attwood vs The Trolls.
Recalling the worst of the trolling, Shirley said: "I’ve had people draw coffins with me in it with somebody with a spade that said, ‘Die you b***h’."
Discussing how the messages had left her afraid to leave her home, she added: "I am talking about being in public. You worry about those same strange people that write these kinds of messages. Are they lurking in dark corners? Are they hiding behind walls when you go somewhere?"
Shirley went on: "Sometimes at night, I lie there and wonder, Are they suffering? Are they lonely? Is it funny to them? This whole experience has made me much more vigilant.
“I cannot say that I leave my front door unless I am on point. I never relax. It has changed my life completely I would say."
Last year, Shirley revealed she had taken time off work for the first time ever following intense trolling during the recent Strictly series. Earlier this year she revealed that the social media abuse she had faced had left her questioning whether she would even return to Strictly.
And while the former ballroom champ has opted to return to the show, she has already become embroiled in a sexism row just a couple of weeks into the new series.
