The Walking Dead: AMC tease tenth season in trailer

Andrew Lincoln has opened up once more about his departure from the iconic role of Rick Grimes in the ninth season of The Walking Dead. With another season and more spin-offs of the original AMC series, as well as the coronavirus vaccine, on the way, he also assured hopeful viewers it won’t be long until the fan favourite survivor is back on screens.

Former Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln claimed he made a terrible mistake by leaving the show back in 2018.

The British star had been the top-billed cast member of the wildly popular zombie series since the first season debuted in 2010.

However, after nearly a decade in the singular role, Lincoln decided to leave the show’s shooting location of Georgia and remain with his family in the United Kingdom.

Now he’s back, the star joked he may have to reconsider his decision to spend more time with his kids.

Speaking to CinemaBlend at a recent virtual junket, Lincoln recalled: “I mean, the connection that we have to the land, to the place, to the people.

“Arthur — my 10-year-old son — won’t let me take a job unless it’s in Georgia now. He just misses it.”

Lincoln travelled back and forth between the UK and the United States with his family when his tenure on AMC’s flagship series was still ongoing.

Unfortunately, Lincoln’s son, Arthur, has started begging the star to take him back now they’re all back at home.

He joked: “He goes, ‘Take me back there!’ I came back home for the kids, and now they’re sick of me, and I wish I’d never left. It was a terrible decision.”

Lincoln made the ironic comments on a virtual Walking Dead reunion, which was held in support of the Georgia Senate Victory Fund.

Luckily for TWD fans, it appears the star’s extended break in the UK may come to an end this year as there were more updates on the announced Rick Grimes film trilogy.

Chief content officer Scott M. Gimple is still hard at work on the films’ scripts, though production was put on hold last year amid the outbreak of coronavirus in March.

With signs of the global health crisis eventually coming to an end later this year, Lincoln raised hopes of starting work on the trilogy in the coming months.

Speaking to ABC, he said: “It does feel like there is a certain sense of positivity and the cavalry’s coming with the vaccines.

“And there’s a real sort of sense of a renewal, hopefully.”

Despite his eagerness to return home to his family, the star confirmed he’s also keen to keep fans happy by continuing Rick’s story.

Following his strange departure in a CRM helicopter near the beginning of season nine, Lincoln recalled a fond memory with a fan who hoped they hadn’t seen the last of Rick Grimes.

The star said: “All I heard was, ‘Come back, Rick.’ It was so moving.

“I turned around, and I just went, ‘We’re working on it.’ So that’s my answer to you, we’re working on it.”

The Walking Dead is certainly showing no signs of slowing down in Lincoln’s absence, with bonus episodes, one more season and plenty of spin-offs still to come.

The Walking Dead season 10 will return Sunday, February 28 on AMC.
