The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea on ‘awesome’ discovery in new series

The Repair Shop star Dominic Chinea has said he’s made an “awesome” discovery in the new series. The restoration expert appeared on BBC Morning Live when the hosts asked him what his highlights during filming had been.

He responded: “There’s too many, is the honest answer. Every time there’s a new craft on the show, and this is the second series now. Stain glass, it’s new for this year this series and it’s awesome.

He added: “I get to meet new crafts’ people, new makers, new mentors… and I have a go at it myself – it’s awesome. There’s such a wide variety of different crafts, and different people.

“One minute I’m talking to a stonemason, then blacksmiths, then we’re doing embroidery. It’s completely different – something for everybody.”

One thing that didn’t excite the repair expert, however, was finding clumps of human hair inside an item.

Dominic, who will also star in The Repair Shop Chrismas Special on December 24, was put off when a barber chair he was restoring was still covered in human hair on a recent episode of the BBC programme.

A guest called Joe entered the famous barn with his late father Bill’s barbershop chair which had been purchased in 1963 and needed repairing.

The chair broke while being transported between shops and expert Dominic was on the case to bring it back up to scratch. However, when he was dismantling the chair, he was left with quite a shock.

Dominic said: “Oh this poor chair has definitely seen better days.” As he removed the seat, he found clumps of old human hair, and recoiled saying: “Oh, this chair is absolutely full of hair! Oh my goodness!”

Despite his aversion, he was able to bring the vintage chair back to its full glory. Dominic, who joined the hit show back in 2017, has become a viewer favourite for his enthusiastic personality and impressive skill of bringing guests’ beloved treasures back to life including sentimental rings, childhood gifts and family heirlooms.

When he’s not filming the BBC show, Dominic enjoys a quiet life with his producer wife Maria.

The duo tied the knot on October 21, 2017, however, little else is known about their relationship as they keep their romance out of the public eye.

The Repair Shop episodes are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
