Sports fans may be rejoicing, but another popular competition was pushed to the sidelines tonight as The Masked Singer was forced to delay its next episode. Expecting a fresh round of celebrity contenders and terrible guesses when they tuned in on Fox, viewers took to Twitter when they were dismayed to learn the cryptic talent show wouldn’t be returning.
Season four of the US iteration of The Masked Singer has definitely been a mixed bag so far.
Most fans have agreed Fox’s decision to intercut the secret celebs’ performances with stock audience footage has been distracting rather than immersive.
Plus, Mickey Rourke arguably cursed the season with bad luck when he decided to unmask himself in the series’ most chaotic episode yet.
Still, The Masked Singer remains as popular as ever, and fans were looking forward to another instalment of costumed mayhem this week.
Unfortunately, a large chunk of the audience were distraught when they tuned in without realising the next episode had been put on hold.
The realisation caused a storm on Twitter for fans who may need some explanation as to why their favourite TV talent show failed to surface this week.
One fan exclaimed on Twitter: “I popped all this popcorn and the #TheMaskedSinger ain’t even coming on.”
This week’s delay came as an even more painful blow considering a brand new slate of performers were set to take the stage.
Last week’s episode rounded out the Group B play-offs by sending home former NFL star Mark Sanchez, aka the Baby Alien.
Millions of fans were getting ready to be introduced to Broccoli, Jellyfish, Lips, Mushroom and the Squiggly Monster tonight before they realised The Masked Singer wouldn’t be returning.
Offering a simple explanation, another viewer said: “The way #TheMaskedSinger was supposed to be starting right now but the stupid baseball game is on.
“Not seeing @NicoleScherzy on my tv this week is making me sad.”

Instead, Fox cleared its schedule to make way for the second game of Major League Baseball’s 2020 World Series.
This week, the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in one of the States’ biggest sporting events of the year.
The game kicked off at 7:30pm, meaning The Masked Singer’s usual time slot was packed with baseball rather than the usual mixed bag of celebrity crooning.
Replying to the show’s official Twitter page, one viewer asked: “Are you on tomorrow night or replaced by world series?”
Unfortunately this won’t be the case, and Fox is unable to officially confirm when the series will return to its regular Wednesday schedule.
As baseball enthusiasts know, there’s every chance the World Series could extend to seven games.
This would mean The Masked Singer’s expected return next Wednesday, October 28, would also be pushed back to make way for the most pivotal moments of the World Series.
As the Dodgers handily came out on top in their first game, it’s hoped the Series can wrap up within the week and Masked Singer fans can finally meet Group C.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8:00pm on Fox.
