The Mandalorian season 3: When will production start and who is in the cast?
8th November 2020

SEASON two of the Mandalorian has viewers hooked – but some eager Star Wars fans are looking even further ahead.

Many want to know when they can expect to see season 3 coming to their screens.

When will production start on Mandalorian season 3?

Producer Jon Favreau has hinted that he wants to start filming Season 3 before the end of the year.

Unlike other shows, the series should not be too badly affected by restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Favreau said: "We’re operating under the assumption that we’ll be able to go forward,"

“We’re in very small situations and oftentimes we have a lot of characters in masks. And we also have a lot of digital work that augments things.

"So we’re a show that’s probably well-equipped to be flexible based on the protocols that are emerging surrounding work restarting.”

One source said: "We've just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3,"

Another said that the art department needs "such a huge lead time" in order to prepare for filming.

However, Deadline has reported that a Boba Fett miniseries would be filmed first and The Mandalorian Season 3 will follow after a monthlong break.

Who could be in the Mandalorian cast?

According to Deadline, Sophie Thatcher is set to join the franchise.

The actress is known for her roles in Prospect, When the Street Lights Go On and Chicago Med.

However, it is not yet clear if she will be joining The Mandalorian or an upcoming spin-off series.

What could happen in the Mandalorian season 3?

The cameo of Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett in the first episode of season two shocked fans and prompted rumours that a Fett spin-off was in the works.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but fans are yet to see what role Fett will play in the second series.

Favreau says the potential for story development in season 3 is huge: “I love the world of ‘Star Wars’ because, on the one hand, there’s a familiarity with this sub-genre, but there’s also a tremendous amount of flexibility of which way you can go and genres you could explore within that sub-genre,

“As we’re meeting new characters, and as we’re starting to hit our stride, from a production standpoint with how this technology can be used, we are beginning to explore where we could go.”
