The Crown: Season 6 preview

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Crown.

The Crown season six welcomes a new face to the cast in the shape of Prince William but who is the actor behind him?

When part one of the royal Netflix drama came out last month, actor Rufus Kampa was given the job of playing the Prince of Wales when he was 15 years old.

His mum Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) died during this first half of the series and Kampa showed William’s initial reaction to the tragedy.

Another star takes over from him though in season six part two to round off William’s story in the early years.

Who plays Prince William in The Crown season 6 part 2?

Prince William is played by actor Ed McVey in The Crown season six part two on Netflix.

These final episodes show the prince returning to Eton College before attending St Andrew’s University where he meets Kate Middleton, played by Meg Bellamy.

Actor McVey is 24 years old and grew up in Devon before he studied acting at the Drama Centre London which he graduated from in 2021.

He previously has experience on the stage, having performed in theatre productions at The Old Vic and Hammersmith Riverside Studios.

The Crown is McVey’s first ever onscreen role so he will be a newcomer to the majority of those tuning in to watch season six.

He might be joining the show in the last hour but McVey has done his homework when it comes to the Prince of Wales.

Opening up to Cosmopolitan, McVey commented: “I was really able to watch him grow up and I really, really studied him.

“I was given lots of research by our incredible research team that are the best in the business, and they read and cross reference everything, and they send you this massive pack, which basically covers everything to do with the scripts that can be cross referenced in articles and books.

“I only read up to where my timeline finishes. So only when he leaves uni, or the bit that I knew in the script was my part to do.

“Because I didn’t want to get murky with later information that didn’t affect what Peter Morgan had written.”

Entitled Willsmania, the first episode of The Crown season six part two picks up shortly after the funeral when William returns to Eton College.

He returns to his room where there are hundreds of letters, both from his fellow students as well as those around the world giving their condolences.

It also highlights how popular William became overnight with the younger crowd, something he wasn’t used to.

The Crown is available to watch on Netflix.
