One on TV’s most aptly titled series is returning in a few weeks. Showtime said today that Season 4 of The Circus, its docuseries that covers the titular ridiculousness that is late-2010s American politics, will premiere at 8 PM Sunday, January 27. Watch a teaser above.
Hosted by John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, and Alex Wagner, the new season will go behind the scenes in Washington and beyond, exploring the shifting power dynamics on Capitol Hill as Democrats take control of the House under Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It also will cover the escalating drama around President Donald Trump’s White House as it grapples with mounting legal entanglements, the government shutdown and continued scrutiny from Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Oh, and there’s that looming 2020 election, for which dozens of White House hopefuls already are gearing up.
Veteran political strategist and commentator Steven Schmidt joined the docuseries in September as a recurring on-air contributor.
The Circus wrapped its third season in November after having covered the conentious midterm elections and ever more contentious Brett Kavanaugh SCOTUS confirmation hearings. The series is executive produced by hosts Heilemann, McKinnon and Wagner, along with Banks Tarver, Ken Druckerman, Ted Bourne and Tom Johnson.
Check out the teaser and tell us what you think? Are you — and the world — quite ready for the earthquake that is bound to be 2019 in U.S. politics?
