Strictly’s Katie McGlynn supported by Corrie pals as judges criticise her jive
2nd October 2021

Coronation Street and Hollyoaks actress Katie McGlynn had support in the Strictly Come Dancing audience this week – and it was appreciated.

Katie, 28, and her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez, 31, danced a jive to 'Good 4 U' by Olivia Rodrigo.

The high school-themed number saw Katie wearing a pink tutu, black and silver belt, a burgundy top and fingerless lace gloves. Her hair was tied in a pink ribbon.

Gorka looked very inch the US high school jock, in a blue bomber jacket.

The high energy routine started well but Katie's energy seemed to flag towards the end.

Motsi Mabuse believed that Katie’s weight was too far back but she kept up the energy.

Head judge Shirley Ballas loved Katie’s coordination but felt that there were a few mistakes that she has to pick up on for everyone equally.

Anton Du Beke said he enjoyed the performance but he could have done with more softness in the standing leg.

Craig Revel Horwood was unimpressed saying that he didn’t like it – there were mistakes, there was no retraction, it was stompy and Katie was flagging by the end.

Thankfully for Katie, there was support for her in the audience. Her former Corrie colleagues Rob Mallard (who plays her character Sinead's husband Daniel) and Lisa George (who plays Sinead's auntie Beth) beamed and waved from their seats.

"My widow and auntie!" said Katie.

"First things first, somebody get Craig some chocolate," quipped Claudia.

"I love the fact that Shirley said you have an infectious personality because you throw yourself in, whatever happens, don't you?"

"Yes, I do," said Katie, Gorka then revealed that he writes out the dances as scripts to enable actress Katie to pick them up more easily.

Katie, who also currently stars on Hollyoaks, received judges' scores of 4,6,5 and 6 – so, a total of 21 for Katie and Gorka.

"Two sixes is lovely," said Claudia. "And quite good advice – leaning forward, standing leg, etc."
