Cher McQueen (Bethannie Hare) made her presence felt upon her arrival in Holloaks, as she revealed that she was Sylver’s (David Tag) secret daughter.
The revelation sent shockwaves through the eponymous village, as Sylver came to terms with the fact that he’s got a child that he never knew about.
In terms of arrivals, this one has achieved an iconic status already, and it was just about as quintessentially McQueen as one could get — cementing Cher as a proper member of the soap’s signature family.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about the memorable scenes, actress Bethannie Hare said: ‘The best arrival you could ever hope for!
‘It was very nerve-wracking though. I’d never met anyone, and then we’re all in The Dog, and I’m just crashing the wedding!’
‘It still feels so surreal. I remember on my first day, I was so nervous. But it really is like a second family, and they just made me feel so welcome. It’s just a lovely group of people.’
‘It is the dream role. The McQueens have so much sass and attitude, and they’ve gone through so much. The amount of stuff that has happened to them and yet they’re still very strong. ‘
Cher has well and truly become a member of that strong McQueen clan over the last couple of months, as — with lockdown having affected the fictional village much like it did the rest of the nation — she no doubt bonded with her new family members.
However, the young girl is harbouring a huge secret — one which was teased upon her arrival after mum Kelly (Jenny Wickham) abandoned her.
Teasing said secret — and the inevitability of the truth being revealed — Bethannie told us: ‘There’s a big secret that she’s keeping, and not telling anyone.
‘But I think the secret will definitely come out, and everyone will be like “What happened?”.
How will this secret affect the relationships that she’s formed in the village though?
The actress said: ‘I think Cher doesn’t really let many people in, but I think once that’s out there, it might be different.
Speaking of relationships, there’s one in particular that could be about to blossom — that is, if Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) and Cher ever admit their feelings for one another!
Bethannie continued: ‘I think she really does like him, but she’s playing hard to get!
‘She tries to pretend that she doesn’t care, and she wants to be the person to have the last say, really. I think Cher keeps to herself, and she’s scared to let people in.
‘I think maybe when she lets go and the secret comes out, maybe then she can let Romeo in. I think they’ll be good together!
‘They clearly like each other, but I think they just love the chase too much!’
Hollyoaks continues Tuesday September 16 at 7pm on E4.
