Snowpiercer: Sean Bean revealed in season two teaser

Iconic English actor Sean Bean finally made himself known in the premiere of Snowpiercer’s second season as the sleazy CEO Mr. Wilford. Thanks to his reputation for constantly being killed in his TV and film projects, fans are convinced the tradition will continue in his new role in TNT and Netflix’s class-conscious sci-fi series.

Post-apocalyptic series Snowpiercer returned for its second season this week, finally introducing fans to the sinister engineer, Mr. Wilford (played by Sean Bean).

English star Bean first entered the fray in the season two premiere, ‘The Time of Two Engines’, by giving the rebellious passengers a list of extravagant demands.

Following the revolution in season one, the audience is fully expecting the resourceful ‘Tailies’ to end up on top.

However, some viewers are convinced their victory over Mr. Wilford could come sooner than expected thanks to Sean Bean’s track record of being killed on-screen.

In fact, the star’s ongoing tradition is so well-known, the theory was proposed as soon as a new trailer for the second season was released on YouTube.

Sean Bean was confirmed to join the cast in October 2019, ahead of Snowpiercer’s debut in January 2020.

When he appeared in the first trailer for the series, viewers rushed to the comments to predict the inevitable death of Mr. Wilford at some point in the series.

One fan proposed the theory by riffing off one of Wilford’s sinister lines of dialogue in the new footage.

They joked: “Mr Wilford: ‘We all know how this ends, don’t we?’ All of us: Mr Sean Bean… not again?”

Movie buffs and TV fans have totalled the number of times the star has died on-screen and, while he didn’t make the top ten, 23 deaths is not to be sniffed at.

He is perhaps best known for his heroic death as the human warrior Boromir at the end of Peter Jackson’s epic, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Bean also ensured Game of Thrones’ spot in the history books when his character Ned Stark was beheaded in the HBO series’ first season.

Other fans sounded off in the comments to tip the death of Mr. Wilford as a foregone conclusion.

“Sean Bean? So at which point of season 2 will he die?” said one comment.

Another added: “Sean Bean??? Well, R. I. P. to his character in advance!”

On the other hand, Mr. Wilford is being billed as the show’s main antagonist, and is likely to survive into Snowpiercer’s confirmed third season.

Plus, Sean Bean confessed he had started to turn down projects in which his character dies in a 2019 interview with The Sun.

The iconic star almost went back on his promise when he signed up to one of his most recent films, Brandon Cronenberg’s body horror thriller, Possessor.

Indeed, Bean almost had to endure one of his most grisly deaths yet when his teeth and one of his eyeballs were pulled out by a crowbar.

Thankfully, it appears the actor has broken his on-screen curse in recent years, but viewers will have to tune in each week to find out if Snowpiercer respects his wishes.

Snowpiercer season 2 continues Mondays on TNT and the following Tuesday on Netflix.
