Our Girl won't be returning to our screens it has been confirmed.

The show creator Tony Grounds feels the BBC1 drama has come to a natural end but, it's been claimed, a contributing factor was the failure to sign up Jacqueline Jossa.

The Sun revealed earlier this year that show bosses were talking to Jacqueline after Michelle Keegan, 33, quit the role earlier this year.

An insider told the publication: “Jacqueline was a shoo-in to take over from Michelle in Our Girl but ultimately it would have been tough for her to commit to being away for so long.

“Jacqueline knew it was a massive role for her but after the initial call it all went quiet and nothing more was said.

“With the pandemic and restrictions on filming, they felt it was best to just pull the plug for the moment.

“It’s a shame because everyone thought Jacqueline could have had huge success in the role but the chance never really came off.”

But Tony has added that he might just bring it back again but only if Michelle returned.

He revealed in a statement: “With the finale of series four showing Georgie ready to move on with her life, it feels like the right time for us to do the same.

“Michelle and I are keen to continue our working relationship and, who knows, maybe we’ll catch up with Georgie in the future.

“I wanted to say a big thank you to the fans of the show. It’s been a joy to write.”

Meanwhile, Michelle has been spending time with husband Mark Wright, 33, and she recently admitted being in quarantine for 14 days after her Spanish holiday is “worth it” in an Instagram post.

The former Our Girl actress posted a stunning photo of herself from her holiday to Marbella and Ibiza with Mark on Instagram.

The stunning brunette is was wearing a leopard print strapless bikini top and a large beach hat, along with a pair of round sunglasses with dark lenses and gold-look frames.

Michelle, who recently wowed fans with her bikini body, shared the image with her 4.6million fans she admitted she doesn’t regret jetting off to Ibiza and Marbella, despite having to quarantine for 14 days afterwards in line with current government guidelines.

She wrote alongside the photo: “14 days in quarantine… worth it”.
