Love Island viewers were left emotional after the show aired a tribute to the late Mike Thalassitis during the launch of the new series.
Mike tragically took his own life earlier this year at the age of 26 after appearing on the ITV show in 2017.
Following the newest episode of series five, the show paid tribute to Mike following the closing credits.
A photo of the reality TV star appeared alongside the caption: “In loving memory of Mike Thalassitis 1993-2019.”

Viewers at home took to Twitter to comment on the tribute, with one writing: “Let’s all take a minute to remember Mike tonight.”
A second added: “Well done Love Island for dedicating the show to Mike Thalassitis. I hope the aftercare and the contestants mental health are now at the priority of everyone involved.”
While a third wrote: “Still can’t believe Mike is gone. RIP Mike Thalassitis.”

It had been reported that ITV wouldn’t pay tribute to the late star in the new series as they felt it “wouldn’t be appropriate”.
However, a source later revealed that a tribute will be aired on the first episode of the series in memory of Mike, who was tragically found dead in woodland near his North London home in March.
An insider told the Mirror: “Producers wanted to pay their respects to Mike and show his friends, family and fans that he was a part of the Love Island family and is missed deeply by everyone.
“It is a really difficult subject but they wanted to address it rather than sweep it under the carpet or pretend it hasn’t happened.”
