CORONATION Street fans have slammed show creators for being 'ageist' and neglecting older characters.
Viewers of the show are 'tired' of legendary characters being 'limited' and have demanded for ITV to produce 'serious storylines' for them.
The Coronation Street Twitter account recently revealed that 19-year-old Luca Toolan will join the cast as Year 11 bully Mason, who gradually torments Dylan Wilson, played by Liam McCheyne.
Their Twitter account wrote:" Manchester actor Luca Toolan joins the cast as Weatherfield High's Year 11 bad boy, Mason."
A show viewer was unpleasantly surprised by the new announcement and reposted the tweet quoting: "No hard feelings towards the younger actors, but they really need to stop forgetting about their long-term cast members… Gail, Sally, Eileen, Tracy, etc."
A second user added: "Corrie is slowly becoming ITV's version of Hollyoaks. Someone needs to put an end to it."

A third penned: "Sick of them throwing in so many new characters constantly and bringing in plot device characters like please can we focus on the characters we actually care about and are the show's bread n butter !!!"
A fourth protested: "I'm TIRED of Gail and Sally, especially being limited to comedy now and only making a handful of appearances every few months. I really want to see them both get serious storylines again because they can be great when it's hard-hitting stuff."
A fifth agreed: "I literally just tweeted about this. There have been far too many sensationalised and issue-based storylines this year. Where is the character development? It is becoming so boring to watch."
The soap series school bullying storyline will transpire this autumn with Mason being introduced on screen as one of the boys picking on Ruby Dobbs (Marcy Alabi), which leads to Hope confronting him, Dylan and Liam.
