Zack Snyder’s Justice League reopened the books for the DC Comics superheroes this month. Not only did each of the characters get another opportunity to shine, they also got some new storylines tacked on at the end of the movie. The film’s final scenes showed Batman (played by Ben Affleck) leading a group of warrior, including Mera (Heard), across a war-torn Gotham while avoiding a corrupt Superman (Henry Cavill).
The ex-wife of Johnny Depp was last featured in 2018’s billion-dollar box office hit Aquaman, which chronologically takes place long after Justice League.
Mera’s new scenes show her brandishing the trident of her dead lover, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), while declaring she would fight Superman for killing her lover.
In the leaked plans for Snyder’s sequel Mera was an integral part of Batman’s plan to battle off the evil Kryptonian, so Heard would have had much larger parts in the future of the DCEU.
Heard recently posted an image of herself in the Mera outfit and commented on her unexpected return to screen.

Breaking her silence on Instagram, Heard wrote: “Seeing all your excitement around the release of Justice League @snydercut and the return of Mera. I get a sword and a crown? I’m in.”
Although Heard is excited to reprise her role, it is unlikely fans will see Mera continue her journey alongside Batman.
The revamped Justice League film followed a fan campaign that called for the director’s original vision, but Snyder may not get an opportunity to make more films in his cinematic universe.
Speaking to IGN earlier this month, he said: “The reality is, as far as I know, there’s no interest and or appetite to do more of these movies from Warner Bros, with me anyway.”
Mera will be making a return in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, however, despite rumours she had been sacked from the role.
The untitled movie currently has a release slate of 2022 and will progress Arthur Curry’s character as the new ruler of Atlantis.
Last year Heard commented on returning to the series, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired.
“And that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back. I’m so excited to film that.”

Heard has been extremely busy over the past year following a long court case against ex-husband Depp.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor sued a British publication for dubbing him a “wife-beater”.
Heard was brought in to testify and provide evidence against the actor.
The Edward Scissorhands star ultimately lost the case. This month he appealed the court’s decision.
Last week it was announced Depp would not be granted an appeal for his case.
A spokesperson for Heard responded to this news on her Instagram account: “We are pleased – but by no means surprised – by the Court’s denial of Mr Depp’s application for appeal. The evidence presented in the UK case was overwhelming and undeniable.
“To reiterate, the original verdict was that Mr Depp beat Amber on no fewer than 12 occasions and was left in fear for her life. Mr Depp’s confused recollections, caused by years of substance abuse, meant he was not a credible witness to his own actions.
“The verdict stands and British journalists can write – without fear of legal threats – that Mr Depp is categorically a wife beater.”
