ITV presenter Kaye Adams and her partner Kai Widdrington were sadly eliminated during Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing results show. After the tense dance-off with Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova, former professional for the BBC ballroom show Janette Manrara debriefed with Christine Lampard on Lorraine the following morning.

Janette shared her sympathies for the Loose Women star after Kaye was the first celeb to be eliminated from the 20th series of Strictly.

On Monday’s Lorraine, host Christine said: “It’s a sad night, actually, for Kaye.”

Janette agreed: “It’s never easy to be the first one.”

The pro dancer had a similar experience during series 14, when she and her celebrity partner Melvin Odoom were the first to be eliminated.

She and her partner HRVY were the runners-up in series 18, before she made her exit from the series.

Janette now shares hosting duties with Rylan Clarke on BBC Two’s Strictly talk show, It Takes Two.

The dancer and presenter continued by paying tribute to the current line-up of professionals, who took part in a group performance accompanied by Robbie Williams.

“And can I just give a shout-out to all the professionals for their group number?” Janette added.

“Specifically Nancy [Xu] – O-M-G. That’s one of those moments I was watching at home going, ‘I want to be back!’”

Janette hasn’t been part of the Strictly line-up since 2020, but she will be taking to the stage with her husband and dancing partner Aljaž Škorjanec for a special Christmas tour.

“Luckily we get our little fix with our Christmas show,” she teased.

“We’ve got our own cast and our own singers we’re really proud of.”

“At least we’ll get our dancing fix on stage celebrating Christmas with everyone. But the pro dancers, they really are spectacular.”

Janette and Aljaž will be seen all over the UK with their yuletide jukebox show A Christmas To Remember from late November.

In the meantime, Kaye has been reflecting on her thrilling, albeit short-lived, experience on the UK’s most popular talent show.

On her personal Instagram page, she wrote: “Well it was a much shorter journey than I’d hoped for but a journey all the same!”

“While right now I’m kicking myself for not having performed as well as I could have, at the same time I do feel proud for having jumped in with two left feet into something a couple of years ago I would have run the other mile from.”

She went on to pay tribute to her partner Kai, adding: “I want to say a massive thank you to the whole Strictly family – the pro dancers, my fellow performers and the whole production crew – but most of all to @kaiwidd.

“You were an absolute gent the whole way through and made me realise that my two left feet could be turned into dancing ones. I’m just sorry we didn’t get to dance together longer.”

With Kaye and Kai out of the competition, another couple will be sent packing each week before four couples remain in the final.

Strictly Come Dancing series 20 continues Saturdays at 7pm on BBC One.
