Instagram Users Flock to Twitter to Bash 'Bug' That Everyone Thought Was an Awful Update
27th December 2018

Instagram explains the change in feed scrolling was “a very small test that went broad by accident.”

Twitter unloaded on Instagram Thursday morning for briefly swapping out vertical scrolling for a horizontal swipe.

Users of the Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform took to rival social media service to complain about what everyone assumed — and feared — was a permanent update.

"Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by the new Instagram update," one user tweeted, and other wrote, "Not to be dramatic but this new Instagram update is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me."

After the Twitter outrage began trending, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, tweeted that the entire update was an accident.

"That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident," he wrote. "Should be fixed now. If you’re still seeing it simply restart the app. Happy holidays!"

Instagram also released an official statement: "Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion."

Before the statements dropped, there was plenty of confusion being expressed through a mix of memes and GIFs. We picked out the most amusing for your entertainment below.

As Mosseri pointed out, it seems that most phones have gone back to the OG Instagram version, but if you didn’t see the awful update, it was captured on video, as well.
