I’m A Celebrity fans vow to vote Babatúndé for every trial after plank walk fail
7th November 2022

I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is finally back on our screens, back in its home of Australia, and with a whole host of new celebrities and nerve-testing challenges.

Sunday night's launch episode didn't waste any time when it came to throwing the stars into tough situations and Babatúndé Aléshé's nerves reached breaking point as he faced a terrifying task.

The 36 year old comedian was tasked with doing a plank walk, which jutted out off a 32-storey building and host Ant McPartlin explained that this year, there was an extra gravity-defying element.

Ant explained: "One at a time you’ve got to walk to the end of your planks. When all three of you are in position, on our cue, you’ve got to step onto the yellow ledge at the very end. You’ve got to lean forward, using a rope behind you to stop you falling off.”

Declan Donnelly added: “There are three stars up for grabs here, each one of them is worth a meal for camp tonight. You need to remain on the ledge for 60 seconds. When the time’s up, in order to win your star, all you have to do is let go of the rope. Then gravity will take over.”

Ant then said: "If you fall from the ledge before your 60 seconds is up, you’ll automatically lose your star."

Babatúndé was clearly nervous about the prospect of the task as he exclaimed that the wind was "contributing to the water in my eyes".

After telling himself: "Go, just go," and embarking on the plank walk, Babatúndé soon lost his nerve as he bailed out of the challenge by uttering the famous words: "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here."

His failure to complete the task has had some members of the public predicting that he will be getting voted for in the show's Bushtucker Trials, as one said: "I think Babatunde might have booked himself a few challenges."

Another tweeted: "The general public putting Babatundé on speed dial on #ImACeleb," as a third said: "Everyone’s gonna vote for Babatunde to do the trials now."

A fourth fan commented: "Babatunde defo wants to get voted for every trial if he’s calling i’m a celeb on the first one," as another said: "Everyone’s deffo going to be voting for Babatunde every trial now."

Jill Scott, who played in the female England squad that won the Euro's over the summer, asked him: "Are you sure?" before reassuring him that it was okay he'd quit.

Speaking about why he chose to forfeit his challenge, Babatúndé explained: “I said I was determined to be here [on the show]. I wasn’t determined to be there [pointing to the plank].”

I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! airs every evening at 9pm.
