I accidentally splashed liquid nitrogen over the Queen and had to write to her to apologise, reveals Heston Blumenthal

TELLY cook Heston Blumenthal feared he might get sent to the Tower of London when he messed up in front of The Queen.

But he realised he’d been let off when he received a special invite from Prince Philip.

The experimental chef said: “In 2008, I cooked for her at the reopening of the Royal Institution of Great Britain, where I was asked to do a demonstration.

“I showed her how to make ice cream using liquid nitrogen and a bit of the nitrogen splashed over the table.

"The Queen stepped back and said: ‘Gosh!’

“I wrote to the Queen and apologised.

“The gist of the first one was: ‘No bother, the Queen found it very interesting.’

"The second was from Philip, asking if I’d do Buckingham Palace’s Christmas party.

“It turned out he was a big fan of my TV series.”
