Hollyoaks’ sexiest barmaids unleashed from McQueen sisters to Heidi Costello
13th October 2021

Hollyoaks has had its fair share of sexy moments and glamorous characters since the popular Channel 4 soap began in 1995.

Many of these village residents have worked behind the bar at The Dog in the Pond pub, which opened its doors 15 years ago.

Known more commonly as 'The Dog', it was also briefly known as The Jolly Roger for short period of time in the serial drama.

From well-known families, to characters who only stayed for a short while, lots of fan favourites have served regulars their favourite tipple behind the bar at the pub.

Daily Star has taken look back at some of the sexiest barmaids that have worked at The Dog Pub, and what happened to their characters in the soap.

Mercedes McQueen

Mercedes McQueen, played by Jennifer Metcalfe, joined Hollyoaks in 2006 as one of the McQueen sisters.

She was a barmaid at the pub from 2007 until 2011, before becoming The Dog's landlady.

However, it was goodbye Hollyoaks and hello sunshine when she left for Alacante with Sylver McQueen in September 2021, signing The Dog Pub over to Fergus Collins.

Taking one last look at the pub, she walked away in her iconic red dress, leaving Hollyoaks fans devastated on social media as one of their favourite characters left.

Jacqui McQueen

Mercedes' sister Jacqui, played by Claire Cooper, also joined Hollyoaks in 2006 as one of the well-known McQueen family.

Jacqui was known for her sexy outfits and love of leopard print, as well as her iconic big hoop earrings and over the top accessories.

She always looked glamorous as she served drinks at The Dog Pub from 2011 until 2012.

The character exited the soap in 2013, when Jacqui fled to Alicante.

However, actress Claire Cooper is carrying on the glamourous outfits in her new career in the fashion industry, co-founding the company Om and Ah London, as well as continuing a career acting in programmes including Snatch.

Goldie McQueen

Goldie McQueen, played by Chelsea Heeley, first appeared in Hollyoaks in 2016, as the adopted half-sister of Sylver McQueen, and also the mother of twins Hunter and Prince.

From 2018 to September 2021, she followed in the footsteps of other McQueens and was also a barmaid at the Dog Pub.

Most recently, Goldie has become involved with a storyline to sabotage son Prince's plans with Olivia.

Hollyoaks spoilers have revealed that the McQueen family will be evicted from The Dog in dramatic scenes set to air next week.

Dodgy businessman Fergus offers Tony Hutchinson the role as manager of the pub, which leaves the McQueens in shock.

Rachel Hardy

Rachel Hardy, played by Jennifer Brooke, joined Hollyoaks in October 2015 and only appeared in the soap for a short six months.

However during that time, she worked at The Dog as a barmaid and was also engaged to Nathan Nightingale.

Tragedy struck however, when her and Nathan's vehicle was hit by a metal structure, following a collision with another vehicle, causing Rachel's death in March 2016.

Heidi Costello

Heidi Costello, played by Kim Tiddy, joined the soap in 2009 and was one of The Dog pub's barmaids during her year and a half on the soap.

However in 2011, Heidi was killed in the soap by her serial killer father Silas Blissett at a Halloween party after he mistook her for Lynsey Nolan, who he was plotting revenge on.

Talking to Digital Spy in 2011 after her character's departure from the soap, actress Kim said: "I've really enjoyed playing Heidi and I've loved my time in Liverpool, but after a year and a half, I felt like it was time to move on."

Cheryl Brady

Cheryl Brady, played by Bronagh Waugh, first joined Hollyoaks spin-off show, Hollyoaks Later, in 2008 as Malachy Fisher's former love interest before joining the main show a year later.

As well as being one of the Dog Pub's barmaids from 2009 until 2010, she was later joined by family members including her brother Brendan in the village.

The character was also involved in some of the soap's major storylines including Malachy and Steph's deaths.

Cheryl left Hollyoaks in 2013 after the character went back to Ireland, with actress Bronagh taking on a number of roles in programmes including The Fall.

Cindy Cunningham

Cindy Cunningham is one of Hollyoak's longest serving characters, who was originally played by Laura Crossley until 2004.

Actress Stephanie Waring took over the role from 2008, and during that first year on the soap she was one of The Dog Pub barmaids.

In August 2021, Cindy was left heartbroken when she found out that fiance Luke, Morgan played by Gary Lucy, had only months left to live.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first look episodes on E4 at 7pm
