Golden Globe Winner Emma Corrin Was 'Incredibly Moved' by Prince Harry's Comments About 'The Crown'

The Crown won big at the 2021 Golden Globes. Emma Corrin won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama for her portrayal of Princess Diana, and the Netflix series won Best Television Series Drama.

While speaking with reporters in the virtual press room after her win, Corrin reacted to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex’s recent comments about The Crown, revealing she was “incredibly moved.”

Has Prince Harry watched ‘The Crown’?

The award-winning drama fictionalizes Harry’s family’s life, starting with Queen Elizabeth II’s first years as the English monarch.

The Crown Season 4 introduced the late Princess Diana as a character. Harry and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, were also introduced this season, but as children with very few lines. According to Town & Country, Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have enjoyed watching The Crown (no surprise there, given that Meghan’s a former actor), but they want it to end before their relationship becomes a topic.

The Crown creator Peter Morgan has said Harry and Meghan will not be covered on the series, as he follows a “20-year rule.” No goings-on in the royal family that has happened in the last 20 years will be covered. It has been 24 years since Diana’s death, which will possibly be covered in season 5, if not 6.

Prince Harry’s opinion of ‘The Crown’ is positive

William has expressed his dislike of the show—as has Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer—saying it takes advantage of the family. Charles said he worries viewers take it as fact. But Harry feels differently.

In an interview with James Corden on The Late Late Show, Harry said The Crown is fairly accurate.

“They don’t pretend to be news, it’s fictional,” he told the host. “But it’s loosely based on the truth. Of course, it’s not strictly accurate. But loosely, it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.”

He even said he’s more comfortable with the Netflix series dramatizing his personal life than any other medium. As Harry continued:

“I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife, or myself, because it’s the difference between – that is obviously fiction, take it how you will, but this is being reported on as fact because you are supposedly news. I have a real issue with that.”

Emma Corrin is ‘incredibly grateful’ Prince Harry likes ‘The Crown’

Before Corrin reacted to Harry’s comments about the series, she thanked the late Princess of Wales in her Golden Globes acceptance speech.

“Most of all, thank you so much to Diana,” she said. “You have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure I’ve ever imagined. On behalf of everyone who remembers you so fondly and passionately in our hearts, thank you.”

In the virtual press room following her win, Corrin talked about Harry. She said:

“I felt incredibly grateful to him. I was incredibly moved by what he said. Obviously, I played his mother and that would have been such a sensitive thing. I was very moved he acknowledged it. I’m glad he enjoyed it, I was very grateful for those words.”

Gillian Anderson, who also won a Golden Globe at the Feb. 28 ceremony for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, said Harry’s opinion is valuable.

“I would say that Harry is fairly well qualified to judge what is fact or fiction,” she said. “It was pleasing to hear he understood what [The Crown creator Morgan] was trying to do in The Crown. He’s telling a nuanced story of the challenges of putting duty and service before love and family.”

Hey, if Harry says they did a good job, they probably did a good job.
