Gogglebox quitter Paige Deville hits back at 'troll' Shaun Ryder after he mocked her reasons for leaving show

GOGGLEBOX quitter Paige Deville has hit back at "troll" Shaun Ryder after he mocked her reasons for leaving the show.

The Brummie lass, 25, left the Channel 4 programme last month "due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions and zero aftercare support".

But one person who couldn't understand her reasoning was Happy Monday's Shaun Ryder, who has appeared on Gogglebox himself numerous times alongside bandmate Bez.

The singer branded her "a bit of a snowflake" and asked: "No support about what? What do you need support for?"

Since then Paige has hit back at Shaun's comments, admitting that she was "absoluting gobsmacked" when she read them.

She told BirminghamLive: "I am a huge Shaun Ryder fan and think him and Bez are hilarious. I have sent messages before on Twitter to them saying what a huge fan I am.

"But comments like the ones he has made implying I am woke or a snowflake are not helpful. You need the aftercare to deal with trolls like him.

"It's ok for him as he is a big celebrity and has years of experience dealing with fame. But I am just a normal person with no experience of fame until Gogglebox came along.

"I have people contacting me telling me on social media telling me to kill myself. I feel you need support when you get abuse from trolls. You need help and advice in dealing with it."

It comes after Shaun expressed his opinions over Paige's decision to leave during a chat with The Express.

He said: "No support about what? What do you need support for?

"Is she a bit of a snowflake or whatever they are called or woke?

"What the f**k do you need support for on f****g Gogglebox for f**ks sake."

Shaun added: "There is really nothing to be supported for is there.

"You f****g turn on the telly and watch f****g five minutes of something and have a laugh. It’s f****g not dramatic is it?"

Paige and Sally shot to fame in 2019 when on the fourteenth series of the show.

They lasted four seasons before calling it quits.

In a brief statement on Twitter Paige said: "I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox.

"It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, [they’re] NTA winners.”

When approached by The Sun Online, a Gogglebox spokesperson said: "The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”
