GARDENERS' World fans have been left stunned as Monty Don announced a new addition to the family after his absence from the show.

Fans of the BBC show were left concerned after Monty failed to host Friday's episode.

But now the 66-year-old has revealed all about his absence, delighting fans by announcing the arrival of his granddaughter.

Monty took to Twitter to reveal the new addition to his family had been born on Saturday.

He wrote: "Daisy Rose Don born today , a sister to George. A perfect way to end. beautiful May day.”

Monty and his wife Sarah have three adult children, Tom, Adam and Freya.

Fans were quick to congratulate the presenter, with one writing: "Aww congratulations grandad, love the name Daisy. Just so happens, daisies are one of my favourite flowers, such a pretty, simple little flower xx.”

Another added: "Congrats grandpa Don. Gorgeous name!”

A third tweeted: “Congratulations to all the family and grandparents, a precious grandson and now a precious granddaughter. You have definitely got to name 2 Rose trees after them both.”

Monty Don's Gardeners World sees him give advice and share his knowledge to enable people to get the most out of their gardens.

However, fans were quickly concerned on Friday when Monty failed to appear.

"NO! No Monty on a Friday evening? The end of my week was supposed to get better, not worse!" complained one fan on Twitter.

Another added: "Where’s Monty? We need him!"

And a third wrote: "No, Monty? TRAGEDY. #GardenersWorld."

Monty's absence was easily explained as he was giving to presentations at the RHS's Malvern Spring Festival when filming for the episode was happening.
